American pianist Simone Dinnerstein has been called "remarkably musicianly" by Emanuel Ax, "a real artist" by Peter Serkin and "one of the brightest pianistic talents" by Joel Smirnoff, first violinist of the Juilliard String Quartet. She is a charismatic and commanding performer of both the solo and chamber music repertoire, noted for her warm and varied tone and for her unusual and compelling interpretations.
This season holds recital tours of Louisiana, Texas, Pennsylvania, Oregon, California and Arizona under the auspices of Community Concerts, Astral Artistic Services and the Piatigorsky Foundation. In September the Danish label Classico released her recording with cellist Simca Heled of Mendelssohn's complete works for cello and piano, the second disc in an ongoing collaboration. This followed their critically acclaimed recording of Beethoven's complete sonatas for cello and piano, of which Fanfare wrote, they "raise the music to a rare spiritual plane... [their] performance is so alluringly played, and so uncannily alive to the expressive possibilities of these works."
Simone has performed extensively throughout the United States, including several recitals at New York City's 92nd Street Y, concerto and chamber music performances at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center, and a recital at the National Gallery in Washington. Media appearances have included a live performance on National Public Radio's "Performance Today" and broadcasts on NPR affiliates across the country, from a live performance on Seattle's KUOW to a broadcast of her recording of Schumann's Kreisleriana on New York City's WNYC.
Simone has given recitals and appeared as a concerto soloist in Britain, Germany, and South America. In Britain, the last season marked her recital debut at London's Purcell Room as part of the Southbank's series, Fresh. Other highlights from Britain include a performance of Beethoven's Emperor Concerto with the Kensington Sinfonietta at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, a performance of Mozart's Piano Concerto K488 in London, solo and chamber music recitals at St. Martin-in-the-Fields, recitals in Oxford and Cambridge, and a performance of Beethoven's Third Piano Concerto in Cambridge.
For two summers, Simone was selected as one of the few pianists invited to be a fellow at the Tanglewood Music Center, where she performed frequently at Ozawa Hall and in Tanglewood's Festival of Contemporary Music. Simone is a recent graduate of the Juilliard School where she was a student of Peter Serkin. Among her many scholarships and awards at Juilliard were the William Petschek Piano Scholarship, the Vladimir Horowitz Scholarship and the Chopin Award. Her other teachers included Solomon Mikowsky at the Manhattan School of Music Preparatory Division and in London, Maria Curcio, the distinguished pupil of Artur Schnabel. Simone is affiliated with Astral Artistic Services.
