Winner of the 2001 National Federation of Music Clubs Young Artist Auditions, pianist David Shimoni played recitals in New York, Cincinnati, New Orleans, Pittsburgh, and other cities throughout the U.S. during the 2001-2002 season. In recent years Mr. Shimoni has appeared as a soloist in New York's Alice Tully Hall, Trinity Church, Joyce Theater, and Juilliard Theater. He has also been a guest artist at the Chautauqua Institution, Foothills Music Festival in North Carolina, and Brevard Music Festival, where he performed with the Transylvania Symphony Orchestra.
A recipient of the Vladimir Horowitz Scholarship at The Juilliard School, Mr. Shimoni's other honors have included first prizes in the Five Towns Young Musicians Competition, National Federation of Music Clubs Student Competition, and Baldwin Young Artists Regional Auditions. Mr. Shimoni has performed contemporary music, including numerous premieres, in the Summergarden festival at the Museum of Modern Art and in Lincoln Center's FOCUS! festival. He has collaborated with Toronto Dance Theatre and Juilliard Dance Theatre and has performed in outreach programs sponsored by the Orchestra of St. Luke's, Piatigorsky Foundation, and Maxwell H. Gluck Foundation. He has also participated in the Aspen, Bowdoin, and Kneisel Hall summer music festivals.
Mr. Shimoni attended the North Carolina School of the Arts in high school, where he studied with Robert McDonald. After graduating with a B.A. in biology from Swarthmore College, he obtained two Masters degrees from The Juilliard School, where his teachers were Yoheved Kaplinsky and Brian Zeger. He is currently studying privately with Zitta Zohar in New York. During the 2002-2003 season Mr. Shimoni is scheduled to appear in recital in Arkansas, Kentucky, Mississippi, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, and Texas.
